Truly Organic, Winter Bouquet Herbal Blend will brew into a very beautiful, fragrant, floral and naturally sweet & sour cup of tea!  A true Winter Bouquet!

I love fall and winter because it gives us more reasons to cuddle! When it’s cold and windy outside all you want to do is to start the fire and snug under a blanket with a steaming cup of tea and a good book!

As always, I like to choose local, powerful North American plants first and preferably the ones I personally grow and handpick, sort and dry either in my Truly Organic Garden or on nearby wild unpolluted lands.

INGRÉDIENTS: Red Clover, Hibiscus, Goldenrod, Nettle, Bee Balm, Yarrow, Heal All, Rosehips.

Wild Red Clover (Trifolium pratense) (handpicked from local wild clover fields) – very powerful purifying and diuretic herb! It is incredible for cleansing the blood. The flowers have the ability to carry waste out of the bloodstream, making this herb a valuable part of any detoxification protocol. Red Clover contributes generously to bone health and helps normalize thyroid. Assisting in combating minor digestive problems like indigestion, increased acidity, heartburn, etc. Red clover is also a powerful tonic, helping to assist in toxin breakdown within the lymphatic system. Its expectorant properties are also great for individuals needing lung support. Source of many valuable nutrients including calcium, chromium, magnesium, niacin, phosphorus, potassium, thiamine, and vitamin C.
Hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa)  (organically purchased) – The calyx of the hibiscus flowers is used to make a wine red tea that tastes like cranberry juice and is naturally high in Vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant, and gentle diuretic and laxative. Used for hypertension, as it lowers high blood pressure. Hibiscus supports Healthy cholesterol and triglycerides, is an anti-tumor, anti-depressant, great for liver and kidneys and staph infection.
Goldenrod (Solidago spp.) – (handpicked wild on our land) – The goldenrod possesses diuretic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and astringent properties and is considered to be the most effective herbal treatment for urinary tract disorders of all kinds including kidney and bladder stones. Also for congestion, colds, and flu, sore throat, diarrhea, arthritis, tuberculosis, diabetes, eczema… Read my article about Goldenrod HERE.

Crimson  Beebalm (Monarda didyma) (handpicked from my Garden)  – Colonists brewed a black tea from it and called it Oswego. They used it to relieve colics(digestive aid), fevers, and colds(upper respiratory infections). This Beebalm has excellent antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-anxiety qualities! Wonderful uplifting aroma of this herb will make a great addition to any herbal tea blend!
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) (handpicked on our land) – Yarrow is one of the very best herbs to have on hand to treat winter colds and flu. A hot cup of yarrow tea makes you sweat and helps the body expel toxins while reducing fever, it supports liver and lungs. The chemical makeup of yarrow is complex, and it contains many active medicinal compounds which are anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, astringent, bitter, digestive, hypotensive, nervine…

I have to say that typically my kids don’t enjoy tea. However, they each just drank a cup sweetened with a bit of honey. It’s great cold or hot. I’m new to making tea, and this was so easy- just follow the directions on the website. I used a stainless steel soup pot- and the yeild was substantial. Thank you for putting together such a wonderful mix for the cold season.

***These premixed teas are best brewed in a teapot or percolator or even a simple stainless still pot with a lid rather than just a cup at a time because it gives the herbs more time to steep. Hot water can be added to the teapot or percolator several times so the tea can be steeped, again and again, this way you get the most out of the herbs.

For more information on making teas, infusions and decoctions see my HERBS page.

This is my preferred method of the COLD and FLU Tea:

  1. Bring 8-10 cups of water to a full rolling boil (208 degrees) in a 3 qt stainless steel pot.
  2. Submerge 1 oz of your Herbal blend and turn the burner off.
  3. Set the pot aside and cover it with a thick towel.
  4. Let it infuse for 1-4 hours to overnight.
  5. In the morning, move the pot into your fridge and it will keep for up to 3 days (with the herbs in or strain them out).
  6. Heat up the pot anytime you want some tea. Add honey, if desired and enjoy!

I like to keep the pot (with the herbs in) in my fridge, so then it is easy to worm it up (warm, but not hot) right in the pot the tea is in. And then strain some in a cup as we need it, add some honey, lemon, freshly ground ginger and enjoy any time of the day.

Note: do not add honey in a hot* tea, because the beneficial enzymes are heat sensitive and are destroyed in 120F and above temperatures.

A single cup size Brewing Recommendations:

  1. Heat 1 cup of water to a full rolling boil (208 degrees).
  2. Put 1 Tbsp of tightly packed herbs into a tea strainer.
  3. Pour the hot water over herbs, cover and steep for 30 mins. Remove tea strainer and herbs. Sweeten if desired.

PACKAGING & STORING: All Herbal blends packaged in a BIO-bags that are made with plant material and is compostable/recyclable.  Once you receive your package, I recommend transferring the herbs in a clean and dry, glass, stainless steel container with a lid.

As is the case with most herbs, this dry mixture should be stored in a dark, dry, and cool place. Refrigeration or freezing is great, but not necessary. Make sure your herbs are not exposed to air for long periods of time and never to moisture.

All of the products I sell are truly organic and free of preservatives, artificial fragrances, flavors, and colors. Naturally GFCFSF. MSG Free.
